Pharmafill(TM) Cottoners Automatically Prevent Tablet Breakage

Wall, NJ: Automated cotton inserters in the Pharmafill(TM) line from packaging machinery manufacturer Deitz Co., Wall, NJ (www.Deitzco.com), feature a new test rod function. Accessed via a new, touch-screen HMI, the test rod function fully extends the insertion air cylinder rods to a preset distance to verify the cotton is pushed to the desired depth in the bottle. The potential for chipping, crushing, or otherwise breaking the tablets during automated operation is eliminated during setup while smooth, consistent cotton insertion and bottle capping downstream are assured.
Included as standard on the Pharmafill cottoners, the test rod function allows the extension distance to be adjusted from the flat panel HMI display based on the bottle size, number of cotton pieces per bottle, length of the cotton pieces, and other factors. For operator safety, the built-in safety guard must be set in the closed position to access the test rod function.
The Pharmafill cotton inserters automatically separate natural or synthetic coil from a continuous roll into individual pieces up to nine inches long, shape them into an inverted U, and insert them into the center of solid dosage bottles with 99.99% accuracy at speeds up to 180 pieces per minute. Natural or synthetic cotton, rayon or polyester may be used.
The cotton inserters are designed and manufactured at the company’s New Jersey headquarters. The new test rod function may be retrofit onto Pharmafill cottoners in the field with the latest HMI.
